When it comes to renewal of drivers licenses, I do not favor treating elderly people more harshly than others. Accidents are caused by all sorts of people. In recent memory a non-elderly state senator was found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident when the evidence suggested he had been drinking. Then he offered testimony at a probation surrender hearing that toothpaste registered as alcohol on a breathalyzer. And now people of his ilk and of quite possibly a similar level of respectability are seeking to make the elderly the scapegoats for automobile accidents.
