Vote No on Question 4
Vote No on Question 4.
Question 4 seeks to increase what people pay in property taxes so that the town will have money to spend on open space and historic preservation. Canton already has enough open space. And, contrary to what some may like to think, there are no historic sites in Canton to be preserved. If there were a worthwhile historic site, a private non-profit entity would preserve it without the need for tax to be levied on every piece of real property in the town.
The Vote Yes people have sent out a ridiculous post card that suggests that the Plymouth Rubber Factory site could be turned into a water park for children to play in. I would not want any children ever playing at that site. I can't imagine that any clean-up of hazardous materials would ever make that site safe.

As far as I can see, the town website is not providing any guidance about trash collection this week. How will the schedule be affected by the storm?
UPDATE: The town website now says, "Trash pickup will occur on the normal weekly schedule."

Canton solar facility officially up and running
Update on events at Norfolk Probate Court:
Summary: Stemberg offered to agree to release the Romney testimony if Globe dropped request to lift gag order on MSS; Globe agreed....
— David S. Bernstein (@dbernstein) October 25, 2012
...MSS objected, but since it's the Globe's motion the judge said she would need to file her own motion...
— David S. Bernstein (@dbernstein) October 25, 2012
...but everyone agreed that MSS can give the Romney testimony to others now, in addition to the Globe...
— David S. Bernstein (@dbernstein) October 25, 2012
...so we'll all soon have the testimony, but MSS won't be able to tell whatever other stories she has about Romney's behavior.
— David S. Bernstein (@dbernstein) October 25, 2012
Lawyers just finished signing amended stipulation.

Allred will be filing a separate motion to lift gag order so Ex Mrs. Stemberg can tell all about her interactions w/ Mitt. Not sure when.

Warning to curtail evening & early morning outdoor activities
From the town's website:
On Tuesday afternoon, July 24 the Canton Board of Health was notified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health that a sample pool of mosquitoes in Canton had tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, or Triple E.
Triple E is a mosquito borne viral disease which can be transmitted to a person by certain mammal biting mosquitoes.
It is a rare, though dangerous disease which can cause serious neurological damage in infected people and can be fatal.
Symptoms include, but are not limited to, fever, headache, irritability, restlessness, drowsiness, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, swelling of the brain, coma, and in rare instances, death.
The mosquito pool testing positive for Triple E on Tuesday did consist of mammal biting mosquitoes and, therefore, poses a serious public health threat to Canton residents.
As a result, the risk level for contracting Triple E in Canton has been raised by MDPH from low to high.
Accordingly, the Board of Health is advising Canton residents to curtail evening and early morning outdoor sports or other activities until further notice to help reduce the likelihood of exposure to mosquitoes.
Steps should be taken by everyone to avoid any exposure to mosquitoes including rescheduling or cancelling evening and early morning outdoor activities, and by taking other measures to reduce mosquito exposure and proliferation.
For additional information on how to protect yourself from mosquitoes, please view the Triple E notice on the Town’s home page at www.town.canton.ma.us/.
Please note that most mosquitoes do not carry Triple E, though some might, and that Triple E is a very rare disease.
But if you think you have any of the above symptoms, contact your physician immediately.
The Canton Board of Health will continue monitoring this situation and will inform local media outlets of any changes or updates and will post them on the web.
In the meantime, the Norfolk County Mosquito Control Project has committed to increasing mosquito spraying in Canton due to the Triple E threat.
